There’s a new boss in town, and he’s acute mess!

To many parents, having a baby around the house is challenging yet rewarding, very much like mathematics. To Tim, however, it is the worst. In the movie The Boss Baby, Tim is a happy single child with a penchant for dreaming. He is the love of his parents’ lives, the apple of their eyes, the one and only one for them to tell stories to, sing songs to, and share cuddles with. One day, he wakes up to find that his family is suddenly equipped with a new baby boy, a brother who fusses and cries and demands at every turn. In other words, his parents have a new boss, and that boss is a tiny, whiny tyrant. Without a warning to call his own, Tim’s wonderfully strong foundation is shattered.

At the beginning of the movie, Tim describes his family of three as a triangle, otherwise known as “the strongest shape found in nature.” So what makes the triangle the strongest out of all the shapes?

A key fact that makes the triangle the strongest is that it has fixed angles. In the image above, you can see how a square can easily shift its shape depending on its circumstances, such as weight change. A triangle, however, will be able to maintain its structure while balancing the excess weight, thus making it a solid configuration in many aspects. The mass transfers along the lines in a consistent transition of division, creating a smooth flow.

The triangle is such a fascinatingly simple yet mysteriously complicated shape that mathematics has devoted an entire section to it. This section is called trigonometry. You can also find triangles used in everyday structures to ensure design, safety, and functionality. Below are a few popular examples:

Though triangles are amazing, at the end of the day, Tim realises that the best shape to represent his family is a heart. As for his baby brother, chances are he will grow up to discover that the secret to world domination may just be a slice of pizza…
